A dash of peppermint added to the herbal garden
Peppermint is used to add flavor or fragrance to foods, cosmetics, soaps, toothpaste, medicines mouthwashes, and other products. Peppermint is originally from Europe, but now people cultivate it all over the world. This month Christ college also planted the rare peppermint sapling. The plantation was done by Rev. Fr. Dominic, the Director of the college on the 19 April 2022. The plant was a gift from Mr. Ritu Kant Sinha, one of the resource persons of Christ College, on the occasion of his birthday.
Plantation of Anarcardium Occidentale
A cashew tree or Anacardium Occidentale was planted at Christ College campus at the onset of the monsoon this July 2021. Cashew was planted with the objective of educating students about a unique plant which is rarely seen in a place like Bhopal.
A cashew tree is a tropical evergreen tree that produces the cashew seed and cashew apple. The tree can grow as high as 14 mts but the dwarf variety cultivators grow may reach upto 6 mts. The cashew seed is primarily consumed as a snack nut, eaten on its own, used in recipes, processed into cashew cheese and cashew butter. The shell of the cashew
seed yields derivatives that can be used in many applications including lubricants, water proofing, paints etc. The cashew apple is a light reddish to yellow fruit, whose pulp and juice can be processed into a sweet, astringent fruit drink or fermented and distilled into liquor.
The campus is made greener and healthier year after year with varieties of exquisite and rare collections of annuals and perennials and the surrounding seasonal flower gardens. The sprawling orchard behind the college is a beautiful view to behold, with chikoos, mangoes, gooseberry, lichee, jackfruits, guavas, lemon, dragonfruit, avocado and many other shade trees along with the rich collection of medicinal plants in the herbal garden.
Plantation on the Occasion of Birthday
A new tradition of planting a sapling, started on the occasion of Dr Pallavi Shrivastava Sinhas birthday. On the occasion, three saplings of Neem (Azadirachta Indica), Bargad (Ficus Benghalensis) and Peepal (Ficus religiosa) were planted in the Christ College campus. These three trees are considered for maximum oxygen boosting. They are environment friendly and medicinal in nature. The first one was planted by the Principal Rev Prof Johnson. This new tradition brought new commitments for nurturing the environment around us.
Tree Plantation
Students of Christ College planted saplings on 3rd March 2022. This plantation was done in association with Ankur Abhiyan run by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Under this program the saplings were provided by the Government, which were planted by the management and the students. The pictures of the program were then uploaded on the app named Vayudoot. The students, staff and the management participated in the plantation drive. It was done under the guidance of Rev. Prof. Johnson, the Principal.
